There is nothing better than sand between your toes, the sun warming your back and being able to look around and drink in your beautiful surroundings. There is also nothing better than not setting an alarm, having breakfast brought to you every morning and living in each moment. Holidays are great aren't they; relaxing, eating, driving to endless locations and being surrounded by wonderful people. It's quite amazing how desperate you can be for a bit of peace, for a nice wee break from reality. It's also quite amazing how a holiday can leave you feeling refreshed and ready to take on the world.
Last week I was able to experience all of this. Four nights of utter loved up bliss. Having never visited the northern part of the South Island my boyfriend decided to take us away to visit friends for a few nights. Of course I was a little nervous.. I was basically meeting the family. I desperately wanted them to like me and I hoped they thought I was good for their friend. Even with this anxiety I was looking forward to a wonderful break from work and not much else. Even though life may not seem to be tragically busy, sometimes you still need a little time to recuperate and rejuvenate before a big change in life. On Monday I start Broadcasting and as excited I am and was I did not want to go back until I had had some time away, so a little joint up north was exactly what the doctor ordered.
It turns out I had nothing to be nervous about anyway, Sandhu's friends, Manu, Rajinder and Gurpreet were some of the loveliest people I had ever met - Talk about hospitality. Never had I ever experienced such a lovely, welcoming environment.
After a long journey involving Butter chicken pies, petrol station coffee and punjabi music we finally arrived and I immediately felt slightly more relaxed. I don't know why but not being at home is always quite exciting.
The day after arriving in beautiful Blenheim we took off to Nelson for a night where we stayed in a lovely wee town called Pohara, which is basically Golden Bay. Talk about gorgeous. The golden sand beaches were to die for. Of course along the way we stopped for lunch, shopping, juice, more food and photos. We also visited the ever pretty Kaiteriteri beach. Bliss.
Piggy Back rides. Gosh the poor boy.
After four more hours of punjabi music, Taylor Swift and Ed Sheeran we arrived at our lovely little motel where we ate butter chicken from a little late night restaurant which was a slight shock after being fed fresh home made, but it wasn't too unusual for me after living on packet butter chicken for 16 years. Thanks Mum.
After a lovely sleep we woke early ready to explore this beautiful country.
Pohara beach was so cute and quaint. There was no one in sight as we searched for shells and climbed the intriguing rocks.
Loooooove this photo.
Great place with great people.
I think it is so much fun travelling to places you have never seen before. It is always an incredible feeling seeing surreal places for the first time. I feel like this country is so beautiful and I had never really realised it before. We have so many crazy places here that we don't even know about. I feel like you are wasting life if you don't get out to see it. Walking beaches, collecting shells and dipping your feet in the cool sea water are some of life's simple pleasures that I know I take for granted and I would like that to change. I have aways wanted to travel, but after this trip away I feel even more inclined to do so. It's like the saying "The world is your oyster". It truly is, you can do absolutely anything and go absolutely anywhere. That realisation excites me to pieces.
We also spent some time with Rajinder and her adorable boys. Ahh look at their faces, Don't you just want to squeeze them. Of course we had to jump on the trampoline too. You just can't pass that kind of opportunity up these days. The boys were so funny and so cute I struggled to handle it.
That night I also practiced making Roti. I plan to one day be a master in Indian Cuisine, as it really is so delicious. It's funny how I used to only eat it occassionaly and now eat it on a daily basis, but I must admit, I'm not complaining, even if my waistline is.
Making friends with Donald Duck. Quack Quack.
We had a great day strolling the little town. We ate ice-cream, brought cute little gifts and had too much fun in the coolest public bathrooms I have ever seen in my life. Sandhu made sure I experienced Queen Charlotte Drive. It is a huge (far too long) windy road with the most incredible views of the harbour ever.
That night we drove all the way home back to reality, wishing we were back in our own little world, only 4 hours away.
Honestly I had an amazing few days with my favourite person and his wonderful friends, who were far too lovely for words. Thank you to them for being so welcoming and friendly. I look forward to seeing you soon.
Sometimes a holiday is all you need to change your perspective and feel at peace again. I can now happily start my course with excitement running through my veins.
Have a wonderful week, I will be back soon. I also have some awesome ideas for the blog coming up very soon. I am both excited to see them happen and proud of the concept; lets hope they work out and that you enjoy what I have to offer.
Until next time, Love, Happiness and Health.
