Hello and welcome back to another week of Lucia.
Fact number 123456: I dream of becoming a Radio Broadcaster.
This fact is something I don't believe I have shared with the wonderful world of Internet via my blog just yet. I have always been interested in the media, ever since I was young I have always loved watching the lives of celebrities, reading magazines, watching the News (I know, right.. what is wrong with me?)
The media industry has always drawn me in, so for a while I knew that, that was the industry for me.
The idea of radio was brought about in 2011 when I realised that hey, I love to talk. Once I came to this crazy conclusion I thought that maybe I could do what I love, but share it with others.
Immediately I took a four day radio course and fell in love with everything about it; I now knew for certain that this was what I wanted to do with my life...
But why you ask, am I sharing this with you all..? Well I am lucky enough to have the incredible opportunity of spending my Saturday mornings at my local radio station, Compass FM.
My Saturday morning's are super important to me and Compass has become one of my all time favourite places to be, so I thought I would share a typical day with you.
Compass Fm is an adorable little station, stationed in North Canterbury. Every morning I arrive, half puffed from climbing up the ENORMOUS (tiny) amount of stairs, and am welcomed by the always chirpy Mike.
This is my second home, the kitchen. No I'm not being sexist; literally, the men are constantly ordering me to make teas and bring them biscuits (;
The paper is always eagerly waiting.
My job (apart from keeping Mike and Grant in toe) is Producer. This role is super duper exciting; I get to make phone calls to people all over the world, and talk to them about a number of things. As I am a people person, meeting new people has to be one of my favourite things.
I am also in charge of locating music, editing pre-recorded interviews and segments, reading and sending tweets, locating news and about a million other little things.
I am also lucky enough to have some on air time. I began by reading the weather, but have now stepped it up a notch and read the news - every hour on the dot. I ask people questions during interviews.. and of course butt in rather often.
At first I was really nervous to talk live on air, but now it comes quite naturally.
Something that is definitely not missing from my Saturday mornings is fun. I honestly never stop laughing. This week I had the quote of the week, (what a privelege). "I may not be fast, but I sure am friendly."
We also have a tally on the board, for how many times I tell everyone off. Normally Mike wins, Grant is always close behind.
WARNING: MY CUP. DO NOT USE.
Meet Grant. Grant announces the Saturday morning show and is possibly the funniest person ever; he absolutely never fails to make me laugh with his singing, dancing and general humour.
I feel so honoured to work with such a talented man.
This is manager Mike. Mike is most famous for his ridiculously bad jokes, sound effects and hilarious news bulletins. Oooh and his candy cane shirt.
Meet the LADS. JR, Henry and Woodsy run the afternoon show full of music, laughter and misfortune. They are totally awesome guys, so look out ladies.
This is the production room, where I edit, record or annoy the boys.
Compass has become a huge part of my life in general; being a part of something as cool as this, really makes me happy and I am super grateful for the opportunity. I adore everything about the station and the people I work with.
If you have a passion and a love for something, I really recommend going out there and chasing your dreams. I hope to get into Broadcasting school next year, and thanks to Compass Fm, I am able to live my dream every Saturday!
I hope you enjoyed having a wee looksie into my life... (even though it was super rushed and terribly written.)
Until next time,
Lots of Love
Lucia xxxx
